Founded on 3 May 1953, Deutsche Welle is the international broadcaster of the Federal Republic of Germany, headquartered in Bonn and Berlin, Germany. Deutsche Welle (DW) is providing all-inclusive television, radio and online services in 30 languages including German, English, Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Bengali and many more.
Deutsche Welle Bangla, also known as DW Bangla, service was introduced in 1975. During its initiation, DW Bangla programmes were too popular to the audiences of Bangladesh and West Bengal of India. Besides Radio service, DW Bangla is providing Bangla-language news about science, technology, environment, economy, sports, women's rights, higher education, lifestyle, etc through its Bangla website (www.dw.de/bengali). The website is available in mobile version as well (m.dw.de/bengali). DW’s Best of Online Activism Award – The Bobs – is also given for Bangla section. Moreover, Deutsche Welle’s Science & Technology related program ‘Onneshon’ broadcasts on Ekushey Television in Bangla-language.
