Jatiya Press Club:

Jatiya Press Club, also known as National Press Club, is the oldest and one of the most prestigious professional organizations of the Journalists in Bangladesh. The Organization is representing the Journalists Community of print and electronic media in Bangladesh. After being felt the necessity to have a club for the Bangladeshi journalism; the ‘East Pakistan Press Club’ was originated on October 20, 1954. After emergence of Bangladesh, the Club renamed as Jatiya Press Club (National Press Club of Bangladesh) on March 5, 1972. Besides the Journalists of the Country, it also included few correspondents of foreign media based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Jatiya Press Club was registered under the Societies Act 21 of 1964.

The National Press Club, Dhaka is the capstone of the Journalism Community for meeting under one umbrella, sharing ideas, interacting with various national, social & professional issues and creating comradeship among the journalists. The Club is symbolizing of press freedom. It creates a unique voice regarding various issues of the Journalism Community.

The Founding Members of the Club, as available from the list of signatories to the Articles of Association, include: Mr. M A Azim, Mr. Abdul Matin, Mr. S G M Badruddin, Syed Nuruddin, Mr. A K M Abdul Quader, Mr. M R Akhtar Mukul, Mr. Hasanuzzaman Khan, Mr. Mohammad Modabber, Mr. S R Akhtar, Mr. S Arshad Hossain, and Mr. Salahuddin Mohammad.
